 EIL-Adept Digital Library

 Description

Digital libraries provide flexible and powerful technolgies that can be used to find and access earth science data. The Environmental Information Lab (EIL) has made its earth science data collections accessible using digital library technology developed by the Alexandria Digital Library (ADL) at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

The ADL middleware supports geospatial and text-based searches using existing data collection metadata. A single query can retrieve information from multiple data collections contained in multiple libraries that exist at any number of sites. ADL uses a standard query language that is passed to the middleware using XML.

The EIL data collections can be accessed at:

The ADL middleware technology was developed by the Alexandria
Digital Library Project (http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu).

Further research and development of this and other digital
library technolgies is continuing as part of the Alexandria
Digital Earth Prototype (ADEPT) project funded by the
National Science Foundation.
